Michael, a male patient, age 71 came in with a previous history of prostate cancer, which was treated with radiation therapy and hormones that lower the amount of testosterone produced. Two years after his treatment, he has a consultation with us Hyperbaric Medical Solutions. He is experiencing very painful, frequent urination, that is waking him up 4-5 times per night.
After completing his hyperbaric oxygen therapy treatment protocol, he is completely pain-free and experiencing less frequent night-time waking’s.

Presentation: Frequent and very painful urination. Nocturia (night-time waking's to urinate) 4-5x per night.
Health History: Patient had a previous diagnosis of Adenocarcinoma of the prostate in July, 2020 (2 years ago) (prostate cancer). He was treated with Radiation Therapy and Luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LHRH) agonists, which are drugs that lower the amount of testosterone made by the testicles.
Personalized Treatment Protocol: 40 Sessions of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy at a 2.4 ATA for 90 minutes, with 3, 5 minute air breaks.
Patient Outcome: Dysuria (pain with urination) completely gone and frequency improved from 4-5 waking’s per night to only 2. Patient was thrilled with the outcome from their treatment.

Though the most common treatment has traditionally been surgery, many patients undergo an initial round of high-energy radiation in an attempt to shrink the mass to a more manageable size.
This can lead to other problems in the future – like some of what this patient is experiencing: hemorrhage; hematuria—the presence of blood in a person’s urine; increased urinary frequency; incontinence; dysuria—painful or difficult urination; erectile dysfunction; the formation of non-healing wounds, resulting in abnormal swelling and inflammation; tissue/cellular hypoxia, resulting from a deprivation of oxygen; and stem cell depletion.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) has demonstrated an ability to control any resulting bleeding, alleviating hematuria over time. By facilitating increased absorption and hypersaturation of oxygen in the plasma of the blood, HBOT promotes angiogenesis—the formation of new blood vessels, enhanced cellular function, stem cell proliferation, and leukocyte oxidative killing.
