Dr. Alan Katz joins HMS to lead its clinical team as Medical Director. Dr. Katz is one of only a few board-certified hyperbaric physicians in the U.S., and comes to HMS from Winthrop University Hospital's Department of Wound Care and Regenerative Medicine.
Alan Katz, MD, FACEP, FAAEM, UHM/ABEM is a residency-trained, double board-certified physician with more than 27 years of experience as a physician and leader in the field of Emergency Medicine and Hyperbaric Medicine. His career has spanned from clinician, to faculty, director, and chairman positions. Most recently, he served as the Director of Hyperbaric Quality Assurance at Winthrop University Hospital. Dr. Katz is also a Site Director for STAT Health Urgent Care and Chief Clinical Excellence and Quality Officer for STAT Health Management.
Dr. Henry Prince takes on the role of Chief Medical Officer, expanding HMS' clincial initiatives and growth in the medical community. Some of these initiatives include extending acceptance and coverage for additional conditions for which hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is utilized, as well as opening new HMS sites in the New York Metro region. Dr. Prince will also lead HMS' efforts to provide greater access to HBOT within the community through partnerships with health care organizations and provider networks.
Dr. Prince expressed excitement about bringing in Dr. Katz, saying, “As one of only a small number of board certified hyperbaric physicians in the U.S., Dr. Katz is a true expert in the field. We will undoubtedly rely on his extensive knowledge and experience, both from a clinical and operational standpoint, to meet our mission of providing HBOT to all who may benefit.”
In addition to providing clinical services, Dr. Katz will assist HMS in its research and expansion initiatives, as HMS projects to open an additional 2-4 sites over the next 18 months. Upon acceptance of the offer to join HMS, Dr. Katz said, “One of the things I’m most excited about working with HMS is the opportunity to expand this tremendously underutilized medical treatment. I’m especially thrilled to lead some research initiatives at HMS using HBOT for post-concussion syndrome (traumatic brain injury), Lyme disease, and other inflammatory processes.”
